Indian Railways Installs 19700 Kilometers of Fencing to Improve Track Safety and Train Speeds

Indian Railways has reached a significant milestone in its nationwide infrastructure upgrade by completing the installation of approximately 19,700 kilometers of safety fencing. This massive project aims to curb unauthorized track access, prevent cattle run-overs, and ensure a safer environment for both passengers and local wildlife. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared these details in the Lok Sabha, highlighting the initiative as a core component of the national strategy to modernize rail travel.

Focus on High-Speed Operations and Safety

Beyond the immediate goal of preventing trespassing, the fencing project is a strategic move to facilitate faster train operations at speeds of 130 kmph and above. By securing the tracks, the railways can reduce the frequency of emergency braking caused by obstacles, leading to more reliable and punctual services. This initiative is part of a larger plan to enhance the efficiency of the national network, ensuring that high-speed trains like Vande Bharat can operate with greater consistency.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Upgrades

In addition to the extensive fencing, Indian Railways is implementing a multi-faceted approach to track safety. The department is actively constructing pedestrian subways to provide safe crossing points for both people and small vehicles. This ensures that while the tracks are secured against unauthorized access, the connectivity for local communities remains intact.

These localized measures, such as the recent expansion projects seen within the Southern Railway, demonstrate a dedicated effort to minimize disruptions. By combining physical barriers with improved transit infrastructure, Indian Railways is building a more resilient network designed to meet the demands of modern, high-speed rail travel. These improvements are expected to significantly enhance the overall passenger experience by reducing incidents and allowing for smoother, faster journeys across the country.
