What’s inside:
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has started supplying ‘Under-Slung Traction Transformers’ for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project from its Jhansi plant, marking a significant milestone in the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
BHEL has initiated the supply of Under-Slung Traction Transformers for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project from its Jhansi unit, showcasing a strong commitment to boosting this ambitious project. The transformers play a crucial role in controlling power supply for modern semi-high-speed trains, ensuring fast, safe, and energy-efficient operation.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project is being carried out by a consortium led by BHEL, with Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRS) also involved. Previously, BHEL’s Bengaluru plant had started supplying ‘Traction Converters’ for the same project, highlighting the indigenous technology and construction capabilities being utilized.
According to BHEL, this step will strengthen the company’s position in the ‘semi-high-speed propulsion’ sector. The operational speed of Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains is set at 160 kilometers per hour, with a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour. This technology will not only enhance long-distance travel but also provide passengers with a comfortable, safe, and modern travel experience.
BHEL’s Jhansi unit has recently received an order for constructing ‘Rail Borne Maintenance Vehicles’, expanding the company’s scope in the railway maintenance segment. This order signifies BHEL’s growing role in not only trains but also the complete infrastructure and maintenance system of the railways.
The supply of ‘Under-Slung Traction Transformers’ and ‘Traction Converters’ for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project from BHEL’s Jhansi and Bengaluru units indicates a strong push towards self-reliant technology and manufacturing in this significant railway project.
