Commuters travelling on the Delhi Metro Blue Line faced delays today, February 20, 2026. The disruption occurred after a passenger was spotted on the track at Uttam Nagar East metro station. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) immediately informed passengers about the service regulation while confirming that all other lines remain unaffected.
What is the current status of Blue Line services?
Blue Line services are currently being regulated, which means trains might run with longer gaps or face bunching. This corridor connects Dwarka Sector 21 with Noida Electronic City and Vaishali, serving thousands of daily passengers. The security staff, including CISF, handled the situation on the ground. Passengers travelling through this route are advised to keep an extra 20 to 30 minutes in hand for their journey today. Heavy crowding is also expected at interchange hubs like Rajiv Chowk and Mandi House.
Fines and rules for walking on metro tracks
Entering the metro tracks is dangerous and strictly prohibited under the Delhi Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. Passengers should be aware of the penalties associated with such actions.
- Unlawful Entry: A fine of ₹150 is imposed for entering tracks without permission (Section 64).
- Obstructing Duty: If the act stops staff from working, the fine is ₹500 (Section 68).
- Alarm Misuse: Using the emergency alarm due to such incidents attracts a ₹500 fine (Section 70).
Offenders who do not pay these fines are handed over to the Delhi Metro Rail Police (DMRP) for further legal action.
Other major updates for Delhi Metro commuters
Apart from today’s delay, the DMRC is working on long-term improvements. A new project worth ₹32.59 crore has started to replace old copper signalling cables with aluminium ones to stop theft and improve reliability. Also, with the AI Impact Summit 2026 happening in Delhi, security remains tight across all stations. Passengers should cooperate with security checks at entry points to ensure smooth entry.
