The Indore–Dahod New Rail Line Project has crossed a significant milestone with the inauguration of two new Road Over Bridges (ROBs) between Sagour and Gunavad. Western Railway officials officially opened these bridges to ensure safer road traffic and clear the path for the rail line’s progress. This development comes as a crucial step just weeks before the scheduled trial runs on the Tihi–Dhar section, which are set for March 2026. The completion of these structures marks the removal of the last major bottlenecks in this specific stretch.

What is the benefit of the new Sagour-Gunavad bridges?
These two newly inaugurated bridges are designed to completely eliminate level crossings in the Sagour and Gunavad areas. By removing these crossings, the railway administration has ensured that local road traffic can move smoothly without waiting for trains, while rail operations can continue without speed restrictions. This aligns with the safety goals of the project, removing identified ‘black spots’ where accidents were a risk.
Senior officials, including Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Vinint Gupta and Chief Engineer Dhiraj Kumar, inspected the site recently. They emphasized that the focus is now entirely on the upcoming trial runs. The administration has made it clear that no further delays will be acceptable, as the project is strictly monitoring the March 2026 deadline for the Pithampur–Dhar stretch.
Project Timeline and Benefits for Passengers
The Indore–Dahod rail line is a massive infrastructure project under the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Yojana, aiming to connect the tribal districts of Dhar and Jhabua with the national rail network. Once fully operational, this route will reduce the distance between Indore and Mumbai by 55 kilometers, bringing it down from 829 km to 774 km. The project also includes the technically complex 2.9 km long Tihi Tunnel, where track laying and finishing works are now complete.
Key Project Details:
| Project Name | Indore–Dahod New Rail Line |
| Total Cost | Approx ₹1,870 – ₹1,873 Crore |
| Total Length | 204.76 km |
| Recent Opening | 2 ROBs (Sagour–Gunavad) |
| Next Deadline | Trial Run (Tihi–Dhar) in March 2026 |
The Sagour station has been upgraded with three tracks to handle increased traffic. Two lines are dedicated to passenger trains, while a third line is specifically built to support freight movement from the Pithampur industrial hub. This connectivity is expected to lower logistics costs significantly for industries sending goods toward Mumbai and Gujarat.
