Residents of Haldia and daily commuters have a reason to cheer. The Haldia railway station has officially completed its redevelopment journey under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This project has transformed the station into a modern transport hub, offering amenities that were previously seen mostly at airports. The station serves as a crucial link for the industrial port city and now stands ready with a fresh look, integrating seamlessly into the operational network of the South Eastern Railway.

New Facilities and Upgrades for Passengers

The station has undergone significant changes to improve the travel experience. The old structure has been replaced with a renovated building featuring a new façade and an extended porch. Inside, the design reflects local art and culture, giving it a unique identity. The focus has been on making the station comfortable and functional for everyone.

  • Waiting Areas: The waiting halls have been completely renovated, and new executive lounges are now available for passengers.
  • Comfort for Mothers: Special Baby Feeding Rooms have been installed to assist mothers traveling with infants.
  • Local Products: “One Station One Product” (OSOP) kiosks have been set up to promote and sell local industrial and artisanal goods.
  • Better Movement: The circulating area and parking spaces have been redesigned to reduce traffic congestion outside the station.

Budget and Railway Development in West Bengal

This project is part of a larger initiative to modernize railway infrastructure across the state. Haldia is one of the 101 stations in West Bengal selected for this massive upgrade. The central government has focused heavily on the state’s rail network, with a record budget allocation of ₹14,205 crore for the 2026-27 financial year. The funding for these specific upgrades comes under Plan Head-53, which is dedicated to improving customer amenities. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier confirmed that Haldia was among the first stations to reach 100% completion in the state.

Accessibility and ‘City Centre’ Vision

A major focus of the redevelopment was to make the station accessible to everyone. The authorities have ensured that Divyangjan (differently-abled) passengers can navigate the premises easily. The station now features ramps, tactile pathways, and Braille signage. Low-height booking counters and accessible water booths have also been installed. South Eastern Railway officials aim to make the station act as a “City Centre,” boosting the local economy while providing a comfortable environment for the thousands of passengers who use the Panskura–Haldia line daily.
