Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 119 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Redevelopment scheme for the financial year 2025-26. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this update on April 3, 2026, highlighting the rapid progress of station modernization across India. The scheme focuses on upgrading infrastructure and passenger facilities while ensuring that train operations continue without any disturbance.

What is the current progress of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

The Ministry of Railways identified a total of 1,338 stations for development under this mega project. Official data shows that structural works and development are progressing at a fast pace in various zones. By early April 2026, development works reached completion at 208 stations across the country. Key stations like New Delhi, Safdarjung, Bijwasan, and Delhi Cantt have already seen major structural improvements as part of this initiative.

How is the South Central Railway zone contributing to this development?

The South Central Railway (SCR) zone is playing a significant role in this transformation after reporting record earnings in the current fiscal year. More than Rs 6,000 crore is being invested to redevelop 119 stations within the SCR zone alone. General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava confirmed that high operational efficiency and rising revenues are supporting these massive infrastructure projects. Stations such as Warangal, Begumpet, and Karimnagar are among those seeing significant upgrades to become modern travel hubs.
