The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is set to strengthen security measures at Hapur railway station and throughout the Moradabad division using advanced drone technology. Following successful trials, officials have confirmed that drones will soon be acquired to monitor railway premises and tracks from significant heights. This initiative aims to enhance passenger safety and protect railway property through constant aerial observation.
What are the key features of these RPF drones?
The drones selected for railway security are equipped with modern technology to assist RPF personnel in various conditions. These machines are designed to provide a bird’s-eye view of the station area, making it easier to spot suspicious activities that might be missed by ground patrols.
- Flight Capabilities: These drones can fly for up to 40 minutes and cover a range of 5 kilometers.
- Operational Height: Surveillance can be conducted from a height of up to 400 meters for a wider view.
- Night Vision: The drones are equipped with night vision cameras for effective monitoring during late hours.
- Wide Application: They will be used for crowd management during festivals like Ardh Kumbh and for monitoring railway lines.
How will drone technology improve railway security?
The deployment of drones is part of a larger strategy by the Railway Board to integrate technology into daily operations. In the Moradabad division, DRM Vineeta Srivastava recently witnessed a successful demonstration of the Q4I drone model. These drones are not just for stations but also for inspecting rail bridges before the monsoon and preventing incidents like stone-pelting on trains. Similar systems in Raebareli and Gaya have already helped in reducing illegal vending and theft. RPF personnel are currently undergoing training programs to ensure they can operate these aerial vehicles efficiently during emergencies and daily shifts.
