The 12557/58 Sapt Kranti Superfast Express which currently operates between Muzaffarpur Junction and Anand Vihar Terminal is under review for a potential route extension. Indian Railways is conducting a detailed feasibility study to determine if the train can be extended to other key stations in Bihar. This move comes after multiple requests from regional representatives seeking better direct connectivity to the national capital.
Which cities are being considered for the extension?
The East Central Railway is looking at several options for the new originating point of the Sapt Kranti Express. The feasibility study includes the following locations:
- Darbhanga: Proposals to start the train from Darbhanga Junction were noted for study on April 7 2026
- Samastipur: MP Shambhavi Chaudhary advocated for this extension in the Lok Sabha to help local commuters
- Sitamarhi: Railway officials are checking the technical viability for Sitamarhi as a terminal point
- East Champaran: Requests have also been made to operate the train from Chakia or Bapudham Motihari
What is the current status of the train service?
As of now there is no official order to shift the train base from Muzaffarpur Junction. The Sapt Kranti Express remains the primary direct link for Muzaffarpur residents to Delhi. The ongoing studies will analyze track availability and platform occupancy before any final decision is taken by the Railway Board. Any final decision regarding the extension or diversion of the route will be based on the findings of this feasibility study. Passengers are advised to follow official announcements for any changes in the train schedule in the future.
