The construction of a new railway underpass at the Hridyapur crossing on the Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Varanasi rail route has officially started. This project was initiated after Northern Railway officials confirmed the plan and visited the site for land measurement. The development is a response to the long-standing demands of the local community following the closure of the crossing a year ago.
What are the official project details and costs?
Senior Section Engineer Workshop Varanasi Ravindranath Chaturvedi and Senior Section Engineer Vinay Singh recently visited the village to finalize the measurements for the project. The underpass is being built with an estimated budget of ₹5.34 crore sanctioned by the railway authorities. According to official estimates, the construction work is expected to be finished within a period of one year, providing a permanent solution for the local commuters.
How will this underpass impact the local villages?
The commencement of this project is set to benefit more than 40,000 residents living across 18 nearby villages. For the past year, after the initial closure of the route, villagers had been using a small railway culvert for passage which was not suitable for daily traffic. The new underpass will restore proper connectivity and ensure a safer travel route for the entire region, fulfilling the commitment made by Northern Railway to the protesters.
