Progress updates on the 21-kilometer tunnel section
The tunnel construction is split into different technical phases. NHSRCL announced that 5 kilometers of the tunnel have been fully excavated using the New Austrian Tunneling Method. Current activities at this site involve installing drainage systems and concrete lining. For the remaining 16 kilometers, specialized Tunnel Boring Machines are being assembled. This section is particularly notable as it features India first 7-kilometer undersea tunnel located under Thane Creek.

Multiple achievements have been recorded in the first half of April 2026 regarding machine deployment and station work. The assembly of the second Tunnel Boring Machine at Savali is currently taking place 39 meters below the ground level. This machine is expected to start its drive toward Vikhroli in July.
