Indian Railways will start a special Vande Bharat Express service between Jammu and Srinagar on April 30, 2026. This train is built with special winterization technology to ensure smooth travel even in freezing temperatures. The service becomes possible after the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project.
What are the special winter features of this train?
The train is equipped with advanced heating elements to fight extreme cold. Self-regulating heating cables are used in water pipelines to prevent freezing, and 1800W silicon heating pads are installed in water tanks. The bio-tanks and auxiliary tanks also have special heating systems to keep sanitation working. Additionally, the driver’s cabin windshield has embedded heating elements to ensure clear visibility during heavy snow or fog.
What are the travel details and timings?
This new service will feature a 20-coach rake, which is a major upgrade from the previous 8-coach versions. The train will cover a distance of 267 kilometers in approximately 5 hours and 15 minutes. It is designed to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Railway officials including Senior DCM Udit Singhal and PRO Raghvendra Singh confirmed that this service meets a long-standing demand for all-weather connectivity between the two capitals.
