The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is moving forward quickly under the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). When will the Bullet Train start running
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the first section between Surat and Bilimora is expected to be operational by August 2027. The Thane-Ahmedabad section will likely open by 2028, and the full line will be ready by 2029. India is also developing its own indigenous train, codenamed B28, which will undergo high-speed trials by August 2027.
Current status of construction and stations
About 60% of the corridor work is complete, and track laying has started using the Japanese J-Slab system. The Vadodara high-speed station is being built near Pratapganj and is expected to be finished by August 2026. In Surat, the station facade is being designed with a diamond shape, and a 27-hectare rolling stock depot for maintenance is nearly ready.
