Aurangabad is witnessing a significant transformation in its railway connectivity and passenger amenities. Recent high-level meetings involving Member of Parliament Rajaram Singh and state-led infrastructure initiatives underscore a concerted effort to modernize the region’s rail network. Key highlights of the ongoing developments include:
- MP Rajaram Singh is actively pushing for the restoration of train stops discontinued during the pandemic and the acceleration of the Bihta-Aurangabad railway line.
- The Aurangabad Railway Station is undergoing a massive Rs 354 crore redevelopment, slated for completion before April 2027.
- Maharashtra aims to become a “Railway Gate-Free” state by replacing 524 level crossings with ROBs, RUBs, and subways.
- New rail connectivity projects, including the Osmanabad-Beed-Aurangabad route, are moving forward with sanctioned surveys.
Strategic Infrastructure and Connectivity
Following discussions held on July 13, 2026, MP Rajaram Singh has prioritized the long-pending Bihta-Aurangabad rail project. A critical 12.90 km segment from Anugrah Narayan Road to Aurangabad has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 440.59 crore, with a target completion date of March 31, 2027. Additionally, to improve regional connectivity, a Final Location Survey for a 240 km line between Osmanabad, Beed, and Aurangabad was sanctioned in March 2025, alongside a request for a 93 km link between Aurangabad and Chalisgaon.
Station Redevelopment and Safety Upgrades
The ongoing redevelopment of Aurangabad Railway Station, which began in January 2024, is set to drastically improve passenger convenience. The project will feature 20 escalators, 26 lifts, and multiple footover bridges. These additions complement the 16-coach pit line for maintenance that has been operational since October 2022. Furthermore, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation is working on a Rs 30 crore flyover project near the Railway Station MIDC area to streamline local traffic.
Statewide Safety Initiatives
On a larger scale, Maharashtra is tackling safety head-on. On July 12, 2026, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that all 524 level crossings in the state will be replaced by Road Over Bridges (ROBs), Road Under Bridges (RUBs), or subways. The agency MahaRail has already received in-principle approval for 131 of these sites, with work currently underway at 65 locations.
