The Indian Railway Board has officially greenlit the conversion of three popular special train services connecting Prayagraj to Mumbai and Gujarat into the modernized Amrit Bharat Express network. This transition marks a significant upgrade for passengers, focusing on enhanced safety, superior comfort, and modernized coaches. The shift includes the following services:
- Prayagraj to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT): Now operating as 20435/20436.
- Prayagraj to Udhna: Now operating as 20437/20438.
- Subedarganj to LTT: Now operating as 14121/14122.
Enhanced Travel Standards and New Guidelines
These upgraded services will maintain a weekly frequency to ensure consistent connectivity. However, passengers should note that the transition to the Amrit Bharat category brings specific operational changes. Under the new guidelines, fares are expected to see an increase of approximately 15 percent compared to the previous special train rates.
A major change for travelers is the strict booking policy. The Indian Railways has eliminated the provision for Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) and waiting list bookings for these trains; therefore, travel is permitted only with confirmed tickets. Furthermore, reservation quotas in the Sleeper class have been streamlined, now being strictly limited to women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
Operational Rules and Passenger Amenities
To optimize operations, the Railway Board has implemented minimum chargeable distances. Passengers booking travel must account for a minimum distance of 200 km for Sleeper class and 50 km for Second class. These rules are designed to streamline long-distance travel efficiency across the network.
As the network modernizes, the Indian Railways continues to encourage passengers to utilize digital payment methods for all transactions. Opting for digital payments not only speeds up the booking process but also ensures the expedited processing of any potential ticket refunds. These upgrades reflect the ongoing commitment of the Indian Railways to provide a world-class, safer, and more reliable travel experience for passengers commuting between Uttar Pradesh and the western hubs of Mumbai and Gujarat.
