Indian Railways has officially fast-tracked the long-awaited expansion project at Shuklaganj railway station. Under this initiative, the existing passenger platform will be widened to 12 meters, a move aimed at significantly improving station accessibility and overall passenger comfort. This developmental project is now being executed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which focuses on upgrading infrastructure and passenger amenities across the rail network.
Key highlights of the Shuklaganj station project include:
- The platform will be widened to a total of 12 meters.
- The project is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
- Authorities have set a strict six-month deadline for completion.
- Contractors face strict action if the project timeline is not met.
- The upgrade aligns with the upcoming Lucknow-Kanpur Namo Bharat RRTS corridor.
Addressing Previous Delays and Future Deadlines
The improvement project at Shuklaganj has seen extensive delays over the past three years, causing frustration among daily commuters. However, local MP Sakshi Maharaj has intervened, confirming that railway authorities have provided a firm commitment to finish the construction within the next six months. To ensure there are no further setbacks, officials have warned that strict action will be taken against the project contractor if the work is not completed by the stipulated deadline.
Strategic Connectivity and Modernization
This infrastructure boost is part of a larger, integrated plan to modernize regional transport connectivity. The development is being coordinated through collaborative planning between the Unnao-Shuklaganj Development Authority and neighboring transit bodies. These efforts are strategically linked to the upcoming high-speed Namo Bharat RRTS corridor, which will connect the major cities of Lucknow and Kanpur. By widening the platform at Shuklaganj, the railways aim to prepare the station for the anticipated increase in passenger footfall and to provide a seamless travel experience for those utilizing the high-speed regional transit system in the future.
