In a significant move to improve passenger travel, the Ministry of Railways has officially converted the Dadar-Gorakhpur special train into a permanent express service. This upgrade, confirmed by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following a request from Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan, is set to benefit thousands of regular commuters, including migrant workers, students, and traders who frequently travel on this long-distance route. The transition from a special train to a regular express service will also bring much-needed relief to passengers’ pockets by removing special fare surcharges.
Key highlights of the service update include:
- New Train Numbers: The service will now operate as 11047 (Dadar-Gorakhpur) and 11048 (Gorakhpur-Dadar).
- Fare Reduction: Passengers can expect a significant price drop of approximately 25% to 30% compared to the previous special fare structure.
- Start Dates: Train 11047 begins its regular service from Dadar on August 18, 2026, and train 11048 commences from Gorakhpur on August 20, 2026.
- Frequency and Capacity: The train will run four days a week with a composition of 17 coaches.
Route and Operational Details
Managed by the Central Railway Zone, this train covers a vast distance of approximately 1,869 kilometers. By establishing this as a regular service, Indian Railways aims to provide a more reliable and consistent schedule for travellers. The train will continue to serve major transit hubs, ensuring connectivity across multiple states. Important scheduled stops along the route include Kalyan, Nashik Road, Bhusawal, Itarsi, Prayagraj, and Varanasi.
This initiative reflects the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Railways to streamline operations and make long-distance train travel more affordable and predictable for the public. Passengers are advised to check the official IRCTC website or the NTES app for updated booking availability and precise timings as the new schedule goes into effect this August.
