A Milestone for Northeast Connectivity
Mendipathar Railway Station holds historical significance as it was the first rail link for Meghalaya, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 30, 2014. It is currently one of the 92 stations selected for renovation within the NFR zone.
Funding for these upgrades is robust, with the government allocating ₹11,972 crore for the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for the 2026-27 financial year. Official records indicate that ₹4,633 crore had already been utilized by June 2026. While the station is nearing its final look, authorities have noted that due to the complexity of the construction work and the requirement for various statutory clearances, a fixed deadline for the final completion of all works has not been set.
