The transformation of Shamli Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Yojana is entering its final phase as the facility prepares for a high-profile virtual inauguration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially open the upgraded station on July 17, 2026, with the main ceremony taking place at Jind Railway Station. This redevelopment is part of a larger national initiative to modernize railway infrastructure and improve passenger amenities across the Northern Railway, Delhi Division.
Key highlights of the Shamli Railway Station upgrade include:
- Total project budget of approximately Rs 25.50 crore.
- Installation of a new 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) with lift commissioning underway.
- Completion of 70% of platform surfacing and significant upgrades to platform shelters.
- Introduction of Divyangjan-friendly facilities, including tactile paths, ramps, and low-height ticket counters.
- Targeting improved travel experience for the station’s 6,500 daily passengers.
Focus on Quality and Oversight
To ensure the project meets strict standards, DRM Delhi Pushpesh R. Tripathi recently conducted a thorough inspection of the site to identify and rectify any lingering shortcomings. ADRM-II has been appointed as the nodal officer specifically for the Shamli event, working in coordination with Site Engineer Ankit Malik and Engineer MP Singh from the Gati Shakti Unit. These officials are working around the clock to ensure that all finishing touches, including minor adjustments to the station building and circulating areas, are completed ahead of the July 17 deadline.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities
Beyond the structural improvements, the project emphasizes modernizing the daily passenger experience. The station will feature upgraded entry and exit points, more comfortable waiting areas, and cleaner, modernized sanitation facilities. While the majority of the work is finished, teams are currently finalizing the parking zones to ensure smooth traffic flow for commuters.
The upcoming inauguration is expected to be a significant event for the region, with local Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) slated to be invited to the ceremony. This upgrade not only promises better infrastructure but also reflects the broader commitment to providing world-class facilities to passengers in smaller, yet vital, railway hubs.
