The redevelopment of Shamli Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is facing last-minute hurdles as officials identify key deficiencies before its official launch. Despite a significant investment of ₹25.50 crore aimed at modernizing the facility, a recent inspection revealed that several passenger-centric amenities remain non-functional or poorly maintained.
Key takeaways from the recent inspection:
• Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Pushpesh Raman Tripathi inspected the station on May 19, 2026.
• Critical flaws identified include a non-functional lift and a broken air conditioner in the waiting room.
• Orders issued to clean platform pillars and investigate parking system irregularities.
• Major structural works like the 24-meter foot overbridge and platform shelters are nearing completion.
• Official inauguration is currently delayed pending the formal handover from the construction agency.
Inspection Reveals Infrastructure Gaps
During his surprise visit, DRM Tripathi expressed strong dissatisfaction with the current state of the station. Beyond the technical failures of the lift and AC units, the DRM noted that cleanliness standards were not being met. He has mandated the immediate reopening of a closed public toilet to ensure basic sanitation needs are addressed. Furthermore, he ordered the removal of unauthorized promotional posters and stickers from platform pillars to maintain the aesthetic integrity of the newly renovated space. The DRM reiterated that passenger convenience must remain the top priority for all railway officials involved in the project.
Status of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme Works
While the inspection highlighted areas for improvement, the station has undergone a massive transformation. The project includes a modern main entrance, new ramps for persons with disabilities, raised platform heights, and a paved approach road. A 24-meter-long foot overbridge is also in the final stages of completion and will include lift access for commuters.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time the Delhi Division has intervened; the DRM had previously conducted inspections on February 12 and 16, 2026, specifically to push for the acceleration of these works. As of now, the formal handover of the station from the construction agency to the railway administration remains pending. Railway authorities are expected to rectify these flaws swiftly to ensure the station meets the high standards required for its upcoming inauguration.
