Indian Railways has officially extended its popular 3% discount scheme for unreserved train tickets booked via the RailOne mobile application. The benefit, which was previously scheduled to expire in July 2026, will now remain active until March 31, 2027. This initiative is part of a broader push to promote digital payments, reduce crowding at station ticket counters, and offer a more seamless travel experience for daily commuters.
- Discount extension: The 3% upfront discount on RailOne app bookings is extended until March 31, 2027.
- Payment methods: The discount applies to UPI, debit cards, credit cards, and net banking.
- R-wallet benefits: Users paying via R-wallet receive an additional 3% cashback, totaling a 6% benefit, valid until August 24, 2028.
- New mandatory rules: Passengers must carry a valid photo ID and present the original digital ticket within the app.
Understanding the Discount Structure
Passengers booking unreserved tickets through the official RailOne app can avail of an upfront 3% discount when using standard digital payment gateways like UPI, credit cards, debit cards, or net banking. Notably, this specific discount does not apply to the ‘R-wallet’ balance. However, those who choose to pay using the R-wallet will receive a separate 3% cashback, effectively allowing travelers to enjoy a combined 6% benefit. This R-wallet cashback incentive is slated to run until August 24, 2028. It is important to note that these savings are exclusively available on the RailOne app and are not applicable to any other third-party booking platforms or websites.
Revised Booking Protocols
In conjunction with this extension, Indian Railways has implemented stricter guidelines effective July 15, 2026, to ensure authentic travel. It is now mandatory for passengers to provide a valid photo ID during the booking process and carry the original document while on board.
Furthermore, the Railways has clarified that digital tickets must be shown directly within the RailOne app. Screenshots, PDF copies, or forwarded WhatsApp images will no longer be accepted as valid proof of travel. Additionally, travelers are reminded that all tickets must be booked before the train departs from the boarding station; any bookings attempted after the train’s departure will be considered invalid. Raghvender Singh, Public Relations Inspector for the Jammu Railway Division, confirmed these updates, emphasizing that the department remains committed to providing fast, safe, and affordable travel options for all passengers.
