Indian Railways has unveiled a comprehensive travel plan to support the massive influx of pilgrims expected for the Mudiya Purnima Mela 2026 in Govardhan, Mathura. With the event scheduled to take place from July 23 to July 30, the national transporter is deploying over 200 special trains and augmenting existing services to ensure seamless connectivity for devotees. The peak of the event coincides with Guru Purnima on July 29, 2026.

Strategic Train Operations and Stoppages
To manage the surge in passenger traffic, railway authorities have mobilized spare rakes and additional coaches. A key highlight is the extension of the 05062-05061 Tanakpur-Achhnera-Tanakpur special train, which will now operate for 55 trips between July 16 and September 29. Furthermore, to decongest Mathura Junction, several trains, including the Intercity Express and Gita Jayanti Express, have been granted temporary stoppages at Vrindavan Road Railway Station from July 24 to July 30.
Passenger Amenities and Security Measures
Under the supervision of Divisional Rail Manager Shri Gagan Goyal, Mathura Junction has been equipped with increased ticket counters, 24-hour medical camps, and dedicated help desks. Security remains a top priority, with the railway area divided into two super zones and four zones for round-the-clock monitoring. Passengers are also advised that the New Delhi-Agra Cantt Intercity Express (14212) was canceled on July 21, and its return leg (14211) on July 22, due to unavoidable operational reasons.
District Administration and Infrastructure
The Mathura district administration is working in tandem with railway officials, dividing the Mela area into 9 super zones and 62 sectors. Security is bolstered by over 4,000 police personnel, 183 CCTV cameras, and 31 watchtowers. To ensure a comfortable experience, the administration has set up 17 RO plants, 30 water tankers, and 61 designated parking spaces. The event is being organized with a focus on hygiene, featuring increased cleaning staff and a mandate to keep the Mela area plastic-free.
