Indian Railways has announced essential infrastructure and safety-related blocks across the North Eastern and Western Railway zones, impacting train operations from July 14 to July 21, 2026. These engineering works, aimed at doubling tracks and upgrading signaling systems, will lead to widespread cancellations, diversions, and short-terminations of several long-distance and passenger services.
- Gorakhpur Cantt-Unaula Block: Scheduled from July 16 to July 21 for patch doubling work.
- Kelve Road Block: Signaling and ‘Kavach’ system upgrades on July 14 and 15.
- Operational Impact: Multiple trains canceled, diverted, or short-terminated with delays up to 300 minutes.
- Passenger Advisory: Travelers must verify current train status via official railway channels before embarking on their journey.
Infrastructure Upgrades in North Eastern Railway
The Varanasi Division of the North Eastern Railway will undertake a pre-non-interlocking and non-interlocking block on the Gorakhpur Cantt-Unaula section from July 16 to July 21. According to Chief Public Relations Officer Sumit Kumar, this work is vital for increasing track capacity, with a mandatory Commissioner of Rail Safety (CRS) inspection set for July 21.
Disruptions include the cancellation of the Prayagraj-Muzaffarpur-Prayagraj Express on July 20 and the Bapudham Motihari-Anand Vihar-Bapudham Motihari Express from July 21-22. Key trains such as the Amritsar-Darbhanga Express, Katihar-Amritsar Express, and Howrah-Kathgodam Express will run on diverted routes. Furthermore, the Siwan-Gorakhpur Cantt passenger will be short-terminated at Bhatni from July 19-21, and several other services will face rescheduling delays ranging from 30 to 300 minutes.
Western Railway Signaling and Kavach Implementation
Concurrently, Western Railway is executing a block at Kelve Road station to commission new Electronic Interlocking and the advanced Kavach safety system. The block is scheduled for July 14 (4:00 pm to 5:30 pm) and July 15 (8:10 am to 11:10 am).
During this time, premium services including the Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express and Tejas Express, along with Mumbai suburban locals, will be regulated. Specifically, on July 15, the Surat-Virar Express will terminate at Palghar, while the Dombivli-Boisar MEMU will terminate at Vasai Road. Passengers are strongly advised to plan their travel in advance and keep a close watch on the latest updates from the official IRCTC website or the NTES app to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
