Indian Railways has implemented large-scale train cancellations and service modifications today, August 21, 2026, citing severe weather, landslides, and ongoing infrastructure projects across the country. The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings regarding heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and landslides that are significantly disrupting both rail and road transportation networks. Passengers must check their train status before embarking on their journey to avoid inconvenience.

Key Highlights of Train Disruptions:
– Heavy rains and landslides disrupt Kharagpur Division services for the third consecutive day.
– Development work impacts Ranchi Division operations on the Kita-Silli section.
– Non-interlocking block at Valsad station affects Western Railway from August 21 to August 23.
– Restoration work near New Harangajao halts Northeast Frontier Railway services.
– Kalka-Shimla heritage track and Adra Division face cancellations due to rolling and natural blocks.

Kharagpur and Ranchi Division Disruptions

In the Kharagpur Railway Division, heavy rains and landslides have caused service disruptions for the third consecutive day. Train number 18401 Bangiriposi-Puri Express and train number 18402 Puri-Bangiriposi Express for August 21 and 22 will terminate at Rupsa. Similarly, the 18015 Shalimar-Bhanjpur Express and 18017 Bhanjpur-Puri Express are also restricted to Rupsa. Several passenger trains, including 68176 Bhanjpur-Rupsa, 68177 Rupsa-Baripada, 68184 Baripada-Rupsa, and 68173 Rupsa-Bhanjpur, will operate only up to Betnoti.

Operations in the Ranchi Railway Division are affected by development work on the Kita-Silli section, impacting five pairs of trains today. Specifically, the 13503/13504 Barddhaman-Hatia-Barddhaman MEMU Express and 18035/18036 Kharagpur-Hatia-Kharagpur Express are partially cancelled.

Western, Northeast Frontier, and Other Divisions

Meanwhile, the Western Railway has initiated a non-interlocking block at Valsad station from August 21 to August 23 to facilitate electronic interlocking, resulting in further diversions and cancellations. The Northeast Frontier Railway has cancelled the 15615 Guwahati-Silchar Express for August 21 and the 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express for August 22 due to restoration work near New Harangajao station. Additionally, landslides have disrupted services on the Kalka-Shimla heritage track, and the Adra Division of South Eastern Railway has cancelled various MEMU trains between August 17 and August 23 due to a rolling block.

Passenger Advisory and Refund Rules

Railway officials have advised passengers to verify live schedules via the National Train Enquiry System or official social media channels before traveling. Refund protocols are in place, with automatic refunds processed for e-tickets and TDR filing required for diverted services.
