Indian Railways has unveiled a comprehensive operational strategy to manage the massive influx of devotees expected for the Mudiya Purnima Mela 2026 in Govardhan, Mathura. Under the leadership of Agra Division Divisional Rail Manager Shri Gagan Goyal, the railway authorities have put in place a robust framework to ensure seamless travel between July 24 and July 31, 2026, coinciding with the festival which peaks on July 29.
Key highlights of the Mudiya Purnima Mela 2026 railway arrangements include:
- Operation of over 200 special trains to manage passenger volume.
- Extension of the 05062-05061 Tanakpur-Achhnera-Tanakpur special for 55 trips from July 16 to September 29.
- Deployment of 24-hour security teams from RPF, commercial staff, and volunteers at Mathura, Bhuteshwar, and Govardhan stations.
- Establishment of 24-hour medical camps, help desks, and lost-and-found centers at Mathura Junction.
- Implementation of strict crowd management via expanded ticket counters and passenger sheds.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Passenger Support
To handle the surge in footfall, the Agra Division is significantly boosting its station infrastructure. Mathura Junction will feature increased ticket counters at all three entrances to minimize queues, supported by dedicated information booths. To maintain hygiene, cleaning staff strength has been increased, and additional dustbins are being installed across key stations. Furthermore, the railways are keeping spare rakes ready to address any sudden spikes in passenger demand, ensuring that train schedules remain reliable during this high-traffic period.
Collaborative Effort for a Smooth Pilgrimage
The railway’s efforts are part of a larger inter-departmental mission to ensure a safe experience for all pilgrims. The district administration has partitioned the Mela area into 9 super zones, 21 zones, and 62 sectors, supported by a massive security deployment of over 4,000 police personnel and 183 CCTV cameras. Complementing the rail services, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will operate 1,100 to 1,200 special buses to connect pilgrims to the Mela site. Officials are working in close coordination to provide essential services like water and electricity, with a special emphasis on keeping the Mela premises plastic-free for the environment. Pilgrims are advised to check the latest schedules on the IRCTC website or the NTES app before planning their journey.
