What are the new changes planned for Balamau Junction?
The proposed changes focus on infrastructure and basic amenities that directly impact the daily commute of passengers. During the inspection, the General Manager pointed out several issues that need urgent attention to make the station more user-friendly. The following updates are being prioritized:
- New Entrance Gate: A second entry point will be constructed to reduce the load on the main gate.
- Ticket Counters: Additional counters are proposed to decrease waiting times for passengers.
- Accessibility: The GM expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of ramps for disabled passengers and directed immediate fixes.
- Water Facilities: Instructions were given to resolve water-related issues at the station premises.
How is the Amrit Bharat Scheme helping the station?
Balamau Junction is already undergoing transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This national initiative aims to modernize railway stations by turning them into transport hubs with a master plan approach. Significant progress has already been made at Balamau, including the expansion of platforms. The number of platforms at the station has been increased to five to accommodate more trains and passengers. As of early 2026, the Ministry of Railways reported that redevelopment work is being carried out across 1,337 stations nationwide to ensure a smooth travel experience for the common man.
