The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Burhwal-Sitapur 3rd and 4th line project on May 5, 2026. This project is part of a larger multi-tracking plan to improve the Delhi-Guwahati high-density route. The goal is to make travel faster and reduce congestion for passengers and goods.

What are the key details of the Burhwal-Sitapur project?

The project focuses on adding two additional tracks between Burhwal and Sitapur to handle more trains. It is part of a bigger investment of 23,437 crore rupees covering six states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The government plans to complete these works by 2030-31. This expansion will include the construction of 9 major railway bridges to ensure smooth movement.

The new lines will reduce the waiting time for trains and decrease overcrowding on the Delhi-Guwahati route. It will provide better connectivity to important tourist spots like Naimisharanya in Sitapur.
