Gorakhpur-Paniyhawa route mega block: Several trains cancelled and diverted till June 9

North Eastern Railway has announced a major mega block on the Gorakhpur Cantt (GKC) to Paniyhawa (PNYA) section. This block is scheduled from May 19 to June 8 or 9, 2026, to carry out essential infrastructure work. CPRO Sumit Kumar confirmed that this move will lead to the cancellation and diversion of several trains to ensure track safety and upgrades.

Why is the mega block being implemented?

The railway administration is carrying out several development projects under the Gati Shakti initiative. The main reasons for this block include the construction of a Foot Overbridge (FOB), track upgradation, non-interlocking work, and platform development. Specifically, a separate block is proposed at Gorakhpur Junction from May 29 to the first week of June for work on platforms 7 and 8.

The mega block has caused significant changes to the train schedule. A total of 7 passenger trains and 15 special trains are cancelled, while 27 trains will run on diverted routes. Some trains may also face short termination or short origination.
