Indian Railways has decided to partially restore the Jhansi-Lucknow Intercity and MEMU train services following high passenger demand. Initially scheduled for cancellation due to maintenance work on the Gangaghat Railway Bridge, these trains will now operate on a shortened route between April 14 and May 13, 2026. This move provides significant relief to daily commuters who rely on these services for traveling between Jhansi, Kanpur, and Fatehpur.
What are the changes for Intercity and MEMU train services?
The North Central Railway has updated the schedule for train number 11109/11110 Jhansi-Lucknow Intercity Express and 64701/64702 MEMU. Instead of a total cancellation of 42 trips, these trains will run up to specific intermediate stations to help passengers. The Intercity Express will now terminate at Govindpuri station in Kanpur, while the MEMU train will run up to Fatehpur. Services between Govindpuri and Lucknow remain suspended during this block period.
- Train 11109: Will run from Jhansi to Govindpuri only.
- Train 11110: Will start from Govindpuri and go to Jhansi.
- Train 64701: Jhansi to Lucknow MEMU will now terminate at Fatehpur.
- Train 64702: Will start from Fatehpur for its return journey to Jhansi.
Why was the route shortened and what is the official status?
The changes are necessary due to a mega traffic and power block required for interlocking work at Gangaghat Railway Bridge number 110. NCR CPRO Shashikant Tripathi mentioned that the decision to restore these trains partially was taken after considering the heavy passenger load. Jhansi Division PRO Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed that once the repair work is completed, the trains will resume their full journey to Lucknow Charbagh. Passengers are advised to check the revised terminals before planning their journey.
