Local train services on the Central Railway faced significant disruptions on Tuesday morning due to a signal malfunction on the main line. The issue occurred on a slow track between Diva and Mumbra railway stations in Thane district at approximately 4:55 AM. As a result, local trains experienced delays of 15 to 20 minutes. Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, Swapnil Neela, confirmed that the malfunction was rectified around 6 AM, after an hour of disruption. The delays led to increased crowds at suburban train stations, causing inconvenience for passengers.
Introduction of New Train Designs in Mumbai
In a positive development for commuters, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that Mumbai’s suburban railway system will soon introduce new design trains. These new trains are expected to enhance facilities for passengers and help alleviate congestion. Vaishnav revealed that a substantial investment of 16 thousand crore rupees in Central Railway and Western Railway projects is underway. Additionally, the current time interval between local trains, which stands at 180 seconds, will be reduced to 150 and 120 seconds, further improving service efficiency.
