Central Railway will convert 12 existing non-AC suburban trains into air-conditioned services starting Monday, June 29, 2026. This move comes after passengers requested more AC options on the Main Line. Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, confirmed that these upgrades will replace current non-AC trains to improve passenger comfort and safety.
How will this change affect AC local services?
With the addition of these 12 trains, the total number of AC local services on the Central Railway network will increase to 120. This includes 92 AC services on the Main Line and 28 services on the Harbour Line. Since these are replacements, the total number of weekday trains will remain at 1,820.
Which specific trains and timings are updated?
Three of the newly upgraded AC services will operate during the busiest peak hours. These are the 6:46 am Titwala-CSMT local, the 9:16 am Ghatkopar-CSMT local, and the 7:18 pm CSMT-Kalyan local. The AC rakes will be available from Monday to Saturday, while non-AC rakes will run on Sundays and nominated holidays.
