Heavy monsoon rains have caused significant disruptions across the Mumbai-Pune rail corridor, leading Central Railway (CR) to announce the cancellation and diversion of numerous train services. The Bhor Ghat section, particularly the areas around Thakurwadi, Monkey Hill Loop Cabin, and Khandala, has been severely impacted by multiple landslides since July 6, 2026. Services will remain affected until July 17, 2026, as repair work continues in these challenging conditions.
Key updates for passengers include:
- 15 major services, including the Deccan Queen and Deccan Express, are cancelled.
- Disruptions are expected to persist until July 17, 2026.
- Over 1,100 railway personnel are working 24/7 on site restoration.
- Passengers must check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) for live status updates.
Impacted Train Services
Railway operations on the Lonavala-Karjat section have been hit hard. The list of suspended daily services includes the Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Intercity Express, Hubballi-Dadar Express, Indore-Daund Express, CSMT-Hyderabad Express, and CSMT-Chennai Egmore Superfast Mail. Furthermore, eight additional trains such as the Mahalaxmi Express, Jodhpur-Hadapsar Express, and Satara-Dadar Express, along with eight special train services, face cancellations on specific dates between July 10 and July 17.
Restoration and Safety Efforts
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has categorized the track damage as “significant and extensive,” noting that the rugged terrain of the ghat section makes the repair process complex. Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Nila, confirmed that while the middle line was cleared for safety on the evening of July 7, the remaining two tracks require heavy-duty restoration before full operations can resume.
Weather conditions remain a concern, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting moderate rainfall in the Mawal region through July 10, which could potentially slow down the repair timeline. All bookings for the affected trains are currently suspended. Passengers are urged to avoid heading to the station without confirming their train status via the official NTES app or website to prevent unnecessary inconvenience.
