The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has prepared a feasibility report for a new metro corridor between Najafgarh and Nangloi. This proposed 11-kilometer fully elevated line will be part of the DMRC Phase 5 expansion. The project aims to connect the Grey Line at Najafgarh with the Green Line at Nangloi to improve connectivity in outer Delhi.

What are the key benefits of the Najafgarh-Nangloi corridor?
The new route will significantly reduce travel time for commuters. Currently, traveling between these two points by road takes about 60 to 90 minutes, but the metro will bring this down to just 20 minutes. It will provide a direct link for residents of Bakkarwala, Dinpur, Khera Mor, and Prem Nagar. People living in Bakkarwala DDA housing societies and EWS flats will get easier access to the main city network.
What is the project timeline and status?
The DMRC has submitted the Phase 5 plan, which includes 18 new corridors totaling 206.5 km, to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Construction for the Najafgarh-Nangloi section is expected to start by the end of 2027, depending on financial approval from the central government. The overall goal is to integrate this route into the network by 2030.
How does this differ from other recent Delhi Metro updates?
It is important to distinguish this project from other recent approvals. In February 2026, the Delhi Government approved three separate corridors under Phase 5A, including RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha and Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal 1. Additionally, a road repair project worth ₹64.04 crore was launched in January 2026 to fix drainage and traffic on the Nangloi-Najafgarh road, which is a separate infrastructure effort from the metro project.
