Indian Railways has introduced several special trains to accommodate the passenger rush during the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026. These trains are designed to help migrant workers and voters reach their destinations before the voting phases scheduled for April 23 and April 29. The services will primarily connect western states to major stations in West Bengal including Howrah and Asansol while passing through key junctions like Dhanbad and Tatanagar.

Schedule and Route Details for Election Special Trains

The Ministry of Railways has finalized the operations of multiple special services to manage the seasonal and election-related crowd. These trains will start their journeys in mid-April to ensure timely arrival for the first phase of polling. Most of these services are scheduled to run until the end of April or the first week of May 2026.

  • Two extra special trains will run from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Mumbai) to Howrah starting April 14 and 16.
  • Four special trains are organized from Gujarat to West Bengal for migrant workers.
  • Major halts include Nagpur, Raipur, Bilaspur, Tatanagar, and Dhanbad.
  • Routes such as Asansol-Sabarmati and Howrah-Jabalpur are also being monitored for additional demand.

Booking Information and Passenger Services

Passengers can book their seats through the IRCTC website or at any railway reservation counter across the country. For those traveling in unreserved coaches, the UTS app and RailOne app remain the primary digital platforms for ticketing. Northern Railway CPRO Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay mentioned that the department is reviewing resource availability to potentially increase the number of trips if the demand continues to rise during the election period.

Gujarat to West Bengal 05 April 2026 Dhanbad, Gomo
