The project started when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone on February 25, 2024. Paramakkudi was one of 13 stations in southern Tamil Nadu selected for this upgrade. The total cost for these 13 stations was estimated at ₹118.02 crore.
The work was managed by the Madurai Division of Southern Railway. Earlier, the Divisional Railway Manager, Mr. Srivastava, confirmed that lift shafts and Integrated Passenger Information Systems were priority tasks to ensure passengers get real-time updates on coach positions and train timings.
