The 150-kilometer rail corridor connecting Bandikui and Agra Fort is currently undergoing a major infrastructure transformation. This critical project, which focuses on track doubling and full electrification, is progressing steadily with a targeted completion date of June 15, 2027. Managed by the North Central Railway’s Agra Division, this initiative represents a total investment of approximately ₹987.83 crore aimed at boosting regional connectivity and operational capacity.

Key updates regarding the project progress include:

  • The project is currently in the ‘Notice to Proceed’ phase with active construction underway.
  • Significant progress has been reported in the Kati Ghati area, including track laying and bridge construction.
  • Electrification infrastructure, including pole installation, is already visible between Bharatpur and Bandikui.
  • Excavation work in the Mandawar valley has been successfully completed.
  • Environmental compliance includes the compensatory plantation of 16,230 trees to offset the removal of 1,571 trees in the Taj Trapezium Zone.

Strategic Benefits for Passengers and Freight

Once the doubling and electrification are complete, the railway network expects a significant shift in operational efficiency. One of the most anticipated outcomes is the reduction in travel time for commuters traveling between Jaipur and Agra. Currently, the journey takes approximately 4.5 hours, but post-completion, this is expected to drop to 3 to 3.5 hours.

Beyond passenger convenience, the upgraded infrastructure will allow for a higher frequency of passenger trains and a substantial increase in the volume of goods transportation. This is set to provide a major economic boost to the cities of Agra, Bharatpur, Alwar, and Bandikui. By modernizing the signaling systems and adding a second line, the North Central Railway aims to provide a safer, smoother, and more reliable transit experience for thousands of daily passengers while simultaneously promoting tourism and trade across the region.
