North Western Railway’s Jodhpur Division completed a critical infrastructure project on the Osian-Tiwari rail section. To prevent train delays and track damage during heavy rains, a 65-tonne water-way box was installed under the railway track. The work was finished just before the monsoon season to ensure smooth train operations.

What are the technical details of the water-way box

The project used modern cut and cover technology to place the structure. According to DRM Anurag Tripathi, the box is 7.85 meters long with a size of 2.5 meters by 1.5 meters. To keep the structure stable, the railway used special backfill material and ensured all safety standards were met while lifting the track.

How was the installation carried out

The installation took place during a special seven-hour block on the night of June 13-14, 2026. A large team of engineers, supervisors, and laborers worked on the site. The railway deployed heavy machinery to complete the task efficiently.

Resource/Detail Specification
Weight of Box 65 Tonnes
Cranes Used 225 Tonne and 300 Tonne capacity
Machinery Two Poklane machines
Installation Date June 13-14, 2026
Box Dimensions 7.85m (L) x 2.5m (W) x 1.5m (H)

What are the benefits for passengers and trains

This new structure allows rainwater to drain quickly, which reduces the risk of waterlogging on the tracks. It prevents soil erosion and track breaches that often happen during heavy rainfall. Passengers will experience more reliable services and safer travel during the monsoon months.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why was the water-way box installed on the Osian-Tiwari section?

It was installed to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater, preventing waterlogging and track damage during the monsoon season.

Which technology was used for this railway project?

The Jodhpur Division used the modern cut and cover technique to install the 65-tonne box under the tracks.
