Heavy rains in Mumbai on July 6, 2026, have caused severe disruptions across the city’s transport network. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, predicting extreme rainfall and strong winds. Thousands of passengers were stranded as rail tracks and highways faced waterlogging and landslides.

How are train services affected in Mumbai

Railway services across multiple zones faced significant delays and cancellations. Central Railway local trains ran 3 to 16 minutes late, while Western Railway services were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes. Long-distance travel was hit hard with over 40 trains affected on the Vasai Road-Virar and Saphale-Palghar sections. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw directed officials to restore services as quickly as possible.

What are the major disruptions and closures

The city saw a complete shutdown of the Mumbai Dabbawala service due to flooding. The state disaster management authority advised private offices to allow work-from-home and declared half-day leaves for semi-government offices. Educational institutions in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Nashik, Palghar, and Pune remained closed on July 7.
