The wait for the people of Kurukshetra is finally over as the elevated railway track is set for inauguration on July 17, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually launch the project from Jind. This project comes after seven years since its foundation stone was laid on August 22, 2019.

🚨: Jammu Railway Station: New ticketing schemes launched to reduce queues, check application dates।

What are the key details of the elevated track project?

The project is a joint effort between the Ministry of Railways and the Haryana State Government. It features a 5.9 km long track supported by 213 pillars. A new elevated railway station has also been built at Thanesar to replace the old one, featuring a platform length of 15.8 meters.

Feature Details
Total Length Approximately 5.9 km
Number of Pillars 213
Total Cost Approximately ₹447 crore
Trial Run Date July 9, 2026
Inauguration Date July 17, 2026

How will this project impact local traffic and travel?

The main goal of this elevated track is to remove five major railway crossings that caused heavy traffic jams in the city. These crossings are located at Main Bazaar, Jhansa Road, near Birla Mandir, near LNJP Hospital, and Kurukshetra University’s Third Gate. By removing these, the city will no longer be divided, and commuters will save significant time.

Passengers should note that train movement on the old track may stop on the night of July 10, 2026, to connect it with the new line. Rail traffic might remain halted for the entire following day to complete this technical work.

Other major railway updates in Ambala Division

Apart from the Kurukshetra project, the Ambala Division is seeing other big changes. A ₹201 crore Kavach system is being installed over 811 route kilometers to prevent accidents. Additionally, the Delhi-Ambala 3rd and 4th railway lines project has been approved at a cost of ₹5,983 crore to improve passenger and troop movement.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When will the Kurukshetra elevated track be inaugurated?

The track will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on July 17, 2026, following a trial run scheduled for July 9, 2026.

Which railway crossings will be eliminated by this project?

The project will remove five crossings: Main Bazaar, Jhansa Road, near Birla Mandir, near LNJP Hospital, and Kurukshetra University’s Third Gate.
