Indian Railways has officially overhauled its digital ticketing infrastructure to provide a smoother, faster experience for millions of passengers. Starting July 15, 2026, the new RailOne ‘super app’ replaces the legacy ‘UTS on Mobile’ application, while a significantly upgraded IRCTC portal promises to handle massive surges in booking demand. Key highlights of these updates include:
• The RailOne app now centralizes platform and unreserved ticket booking.
• IRCTC booking capacity has surged to over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute.
• Mandatory live ticket display and photo ID requirements for online bookings.
• Introduction of user-friendly features like fare calendars and preferred seat selection.
• Extension of the 3% R-Wallet bonus scheme until August 24, 2028.
Transition to the RailOne Super App
Following the discontinuation of the ‘UTS on Mobile’ app on March 1, 2026, the new RailOne app has emerged as the unified platform for all unreserved and platform ticket services. A critical update for commuters is the new verification protocol: passengers must present a valid photo ID (such as an Aadhaar or Voter ID) and display the ‘live’ ticket directly within the RailOne app. Please note that screenshots or shared images are no longer valid for travel, and these specific digital rules do not apply to physical tickets purchased at station counters.
Revamped IRCTC Portal and Enhanced Capacity
Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the upgraded IRCTC website and app represent a massive leap in technical capability. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the system is now equipped to handle over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute, a significant increase from the previous 32,000 limit. The system’s ability to process Passenger Reservation System (PRS) inquiries has also been upgraded to over 40 lakh per minute.
To improve the user experience, the new platform introduces several passenger-centric features, including a fare calendar, a unified view of seat availability across various classes, and multilingual support. Frequent travelers will also appreciate the reduction or total elimination of CAPTCHA verification, which is expected to make the booking process much faster. Additionally, for budget-conscious commuters, the 3% bonus scheme for booking general tickets via the RailOne R-Wallet has been officially extended until August 24, 2028, ensuring continued value for digital users.
