In a major boost to regional infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually dedicated the Kurukshetra Elevated Railway Track to the nation on July 17, 2026. During the same event, the Prime Minister also flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train from Jind, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sustainable transport journey. The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, at the Kurukshetra University auditorium.

Key highlights of the new rail infrastructure include:

• The 5.9-kilometer elevated track eliminates five major railway crossings in Kurukshetra.

• The project was completed at a total cost of ₹447 crore, with the Haryana Government contributing ₹206 crore.

• The track features a 4.8-kilometer viaduct supported by 213 pillars.

• Trial runs were successfully concluded on July 9, 2026, ensuring operational readiness.

Enhancing Connectivity and Safety in Kurukshetra

The 5.9-kilometer elevated railway track, a project spearheaded by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC), is set to transform urban mobility in Kurukshetra. By elevating the rail line, the project successfully removes five critical railway crossings located at Main Bazaar, Jhansa Road, near Birla Mandir, near LNJP Hospital, and near the third gate of Kurukshetra University. This development is expected to drastically reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety for thousands of commuters daily.

A Leap Toward Green Energy

Beyond the elevated track, the flagging off of India’s first hydrogen-powered train from Jind marks a pivotal shift toward eco-friendly rail travel. Hydrogen trains are widely seen as the future of Indian Railways, offering a clean, zero-emission alternative to traditional diesel locomotives. This initiative aligns with the national goal of achieving a greener and more sustainable rail network.

In addition to these railway advancements, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a Sikh Museum at Umri village. The event also saw the inauguration of various development projects across Haryana, including new medical colleges in Bhiwani and Narnaul, alongside National Highway projects valued at over ₹12,470 crore. These projects underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing both transport infrastructure and public services across the state.
