Shamli Railway Station has officially entered a new era of connectivity and passenger comfort following a comprehensive redevelopment project worth ₹24.98 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the revamped station on July 17, 2026, from Jalandhar Cantt, marking a significant milestone for the region’s rail infrastructure. The transformation was completed under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which focuses on modernizing railway facilities across the country.
Key highlights of the Shamli station redevelopment include:
• Total investment of ₹24.98 crore for world-class amenities.
• Construction of a 12-meter wide footover bridge with lifts and escalators.
• New circulating area with organized parking for 150-200 vehicles.
• Enhanced accessibility features for persons with disabilities, including tactile paths.
• Integration of green energy concepts and ‘One Station One Product’ kiosks.
Modern Amenities for Passengers
The station has received a significant facelift, featuring a modern building facade, spacious waiting rooms, and clean, updated toilet facilities. To ensure a seamless passenger experience, the station is now equipped with digital display boards, an advanced public announcement system, and high-speed Wi-Fi. The platform areas have undergone major improvements, including new surfaces and weather-proof shelters to protect commuters from the elements.
Safety and accessibility were core priorities of this project. The introduction of ramps, accessible toilets, and designated parking ensures that the station is inclusive for all travelers. Furthermore, the focus on green energy highlights the railway’s commitment to environmental conservation in its infrastructure projects.
Future Expansion and Local Sentiment
During the inauguration ceremony, which featured cultural performances by local school students, several dignitaries shared their vision for the region’s rail connectivity. BJP National Vice President and Rajya Sabha MP Laxmikant Vajpayee emphasized the necessity of accelerating the Delhi-Saharanpur rail route doubling project. Meanwhile, local representatives, including BJP MLC Mohit Beniwal, advocated for the extension of the Namo Bharat train service to Shamli to further boost regional connectivity. Former Cabinet Minister Suresh Rana noted that the station’s inclusion in the Amrit Bharat initiative is a matter of pride for the local community, promising a significant boost to the local economy through the new ‘One Station One Product’ kiosk.
