Indian Railways is set to elevate the travel experience for passengers in Rajasthan with the upcoming introduction of an AC-equipped Amrit Bharat Express. This new service will connect Jodhpur to Mau, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind to integrate air-conditioned coaches into the Amrit Bharat fleet. The project, which involves an investment of approximately ₹22 crore, is being managed by the North Western Railway (NWR) and promises to provide a modern, comfortable alternative for commuters on this route.
Key highlights of the new service include:
- Train Numbers: 14809 (Jodhpur to Mau) and 14810 (Mau to Jodhpur).
- Modern Rakes: The service will utilize the “Version 3” Amrit Bharat rakes, featuring nine AC coaches and ten non-AC (sleeper/general) coaches.
- Technical Upgrades: Four new WAP-7 locomotives from the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) have been allotted to Jodhpur’s Bhagat Ki Kothi shed to power these trains.
- Manufacturing: The advanced trainsets are manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
Schedule and Connectivity
Under the current operational plan, the Jodhpur–Mau Amrit Bharat Express (14809) is scheduled to depart Jodhpur every Sunday at 5:00 PM, reaching Mau at 11:20 PM the following day. For the return journey, train number 14810 will depart Mau every Tuesday at 4:00 AM, arriving back in Jodhpur on Wednesday at 8:00 AM. This service transition follows official instructions from the Railway Board issued on March 26, 2026, which upgraded the existing special train status to the Amrit Bharat Express category.
Enhanced Passenger Experience
Beyond the addition of air-conditioned compartments, passengers can look forward to a host of modern amenities designed to improve long-distance travel. The coaches will be equipped with comfortable seating arrangements, dedicated mobile charging facilities, and upgraded modern toilets. As the second Amrit Bharat Express to serve the Rajasthan region, this train is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Western and Eastern India. While the infrastructure and locomotives are ready, the railway administration is expected to announce the specific date for the commencement of regular operations in the coming weeks.
