Katihar Railway Station is undergoing a significant transformation as its extensive beautification and renovation work reaches the final phase. As of August 8, 2026, the station is being revamped under the central government’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to provide passengers with a modern, world-class travel experience. The upgrades focus on both aesthetic appeal and sustainable infrastructure, ensuring the station serves as a pride for the region.
Key highlights of the renovation include:
• Installation of a prominent ‘Station Name Set’ at the main entrance.
• Implementation of state-of-the-art facade and decorative lighting.
• Complete overhaul of the circulating area near Platform No. 1.
• Addition of a water fountain, landscaped gardens, and a dedicated green zone.
• Launch of a large-scale solar power project for energy self-sufficiency.
Enhanced Aesthetics and Passenger Experience
The station’s visual identity is receiving a major boost. Anup Kumar Singh, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) of the Katihar Rail Division, confirmed that the work is progressing swiftly under the guidance of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM). The new facade lighting is designed to create a welcoming ambiance, particularly after sunset, and will complement the existing popular “I Love Katihar” selfie point, making the station a more attractive destination for commuters and visitors alike.
Commitment to Green Energy
Beyond the visual upgrades, the Katihar Rail Division and the Northeast Frontier Railway are prioritizing sustainability. A major highlight of the redevelopment is the large-scale solar power project established under the Pradhan Mantri Solar Urja Yojana. This initiative is a crucial step toward reducing the station’s electricity consumption and moving the facility toward energy self-sufficiency. By integrating green energy solutions, Katihar is setting a benchmark for modern railway infrastructure that balances passenger comfort with environmental responsibility. Passengers can look forward to a greener, cleaner, and more vibrant station environment as these final touches are completed.
