Engineering and Safety Standards
Constructing tunnels beneath the bustling Bhopal Railway Station requires extreme precision. The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) is installing permanent precast RCC rings to ensure long-term structural stability. To manage the risks associated with deep underground work, the authorities have implemented advanced instrumentation to monitor ground subsidence and vibrations. Furthermore, specialized ventilation and gas monitoring systems are in place to prioritize the safety of the workforce.
Future Connectivity and Funding
The ambitious project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), includes the construction of the Nadra Metro Station, which is planned as a complex three-level underground facility. The entire tunnel stretch spans approximately 3.39 kilometers.
Meanwhile, anticipation is building for the elevated section of the Orange Line. Stretching 6.22 kilometers from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar Depot, this phase is currently in its final stages. Following a signaling system inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in June 2026, officials are finalizing the operational schedule. Once safety clearances are fully obtained, this elevated section will mark a major leap forward for Bhopal’s public transport infrastructure.
