The local community has clarified that they are not against infrastructure development but are seeking a more practical approach to urban mobility.
Proposed alternatives and demands
To ensure the project serves the public interest effectively, protesters have put forward several specific demands. These include a redesign featuring a Y-shaped connection that links to the existing overbridge and descends toward Bhikhampur Road. Additionally, there are calls for the construction of a permanent underpass on Bhikhampur Road and the relocation of the railway goods shed to a site outside the city limits to reduce heavy vehicle movement in congested areas.
Vijendra Singh, Deputy Project Manager of Setu Nigam, confirmed the suspension of work. Moving forward, the district administration is expected to hold a series of meetings with the protesting stakeholders.
