Following a high-level consultative meeting with local organizations, the administration is prioritizing enhanced passenger amenities, robust security, and seamless rail connectivity to accommodate the millions expected to visit the holy city.

To handle the surge in passengers, Northern Railway has ramped up operations between July 30 and August 14. This includes running dedicated Mela Special trains, such as the Haridwar-Delhi Shahdara service, and a special link between Saharanpur and Haridwar operational until August 10. To facilitate easier boarding and deboarding, the timings and stoppages of 16 trains have been modified, with additional halts strategically placed at Jwalapur and Motichur stations.
Security remains a top priority, with the station area divided into multiple zones. The administration has strictly prohibited alcohol, weapons, and provocative sloganeering, while also implementing specific noise and height restrictions for DJ systems to ensure a peaceful pilgrimage experience.
Infrastructure Upgrades for Ardh Kumbh 2027
Looking toward the Ardh Kumbh Mela (January to April 2027), the railway is undertaking a massive transformation. The ₹460 crore redevelopment of Haridwar railway station serves as the centerpiece, alongside upgrades to 10 other stations in the region. These improvements focus on creating larger holding areas and increasing the number of ticket counters to handle peak-day crowds.
The railway administration plans to run at least 15 special trains for key bathing days during the 2027 event. Passengers should note that ticket bookings for January 2027 are expected to open in October 2026. Beyond the railways, the central government is investing over ₹2,000 crore in broader regional infrastructure, including road widening, new bridges, and improved utility services, ensuring the city is fully prepared for the spiritual gathering.
