Enhanced Design and Custom Features
This project builds upon the successful collaboration between RCF and Bangladesh Railway, which previously saw the supply of 120 coaches between 2015 and 2016. According to the Ministry of Railways, these new coaches incorporate several design modifications developed for the first time in LHB-type rolling stock. To ensure durability, the roof structure has been reinforced to withstand high-density passenger loads. Furthermore, the coaches adhere to the European standard EN 15227 for crashworthiness, which required a comprehensive redesign of the car body shell.
Technical specifications have also been adapted to meet regional requirements. Unlike the 750-volt system used by Indian Railways, these coaches are equipped with an electrical system designed for 415-volt operation.
Passenger Comfort and Amenities
Beyond structural upgrades, the coaches are packed with passenger-centric amenities. The interior features ergonomically designed reclining chairs with stainless steel armrests and footrests in both AC and non-AC chair cars. To prioritize safety and convenience, the coaches include an integrated CCTV surveillance system, a passenger alarm system, and partially openable windows. In a thoughtful nod to passenger needs, the design also incorporates a dedicated baby care room and a prayer room, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for all commuters. With RITES aiming to accelerate the supply chain, Bangladesh Railway expects a steady influx of these high-quality coaches to bolster their broad-gauge fleet over the coming months.
