To assist the heavy influx of pilgrims traveling during the final stretch of the Shravani Mela, Eastern Railway has announced a comprehensive plan to run additional special trains. These services are scheduled to operate from August 17 to August 29, 2026, providing much-needed connectivity to key pilgrimage hubs including Deoghar, Jasidih, Madhupur, and Basukinath.

Key highlights of the announcement include:

  • Operation of five pairs of unreserved special trains to manage high passenger demand.
  • Introduction of 22-coach train compositions, featuring 20 sleeper or general class coaches.
  • Extended service for the Danapur-Bhagalpur special (03233/03234) until August 19.
  • Increased frequency for the Madhupur-Itwari special service.
  • Continued daily operations for Gaya-Madhupur and Gaya-DDU specials until August 28, 2026.

Enhanced Connectivity for Devotees

Eastern Railway is prioritizing routes that connect Basukinath to major cities such as Gorakhpur, Patna, and Asansol. Among the specific services deployed are the 03565/03566 and 03563/03564 special trains, which have been strategically scheduled to operate throughout the latter half of August. By deploying high-capacity 22-coach rakes, the railway aims to minimize overcrowding and ensure that the thousands of devotees returning from the festivities have a safe and comfortable journey.

Strategic Scheduling and Extensions

Recognizing the logistical challenges posed by the Shravani Mela, the railway administration has also focused on extending existing services that serve the region. The decision to extend the Danapur-Bhagalpur special (03233/03234) until August 19 provides a critical buffer for travelers during the peak period. Furthermore, the daily operation of the Gaya-Madhupur and Gaya-DDU special trains until August 28, 2026, serves as a backbone for commuters moving between these pilgrimage centers. Passengers are advised to check the official IRCTC website or the NTES app for real-time updates on timings and coach positions as they finalize their travel plans for the Mela.
