To manage the significant surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming festive season, the South East Central Railway (SECR) has launched a new special train service connecting Prayagraj and Visakhapatnam. This initiative is designed to provide seamless travel options for passengers traveling between August and November 2026, covering major festivals from Raksha Bandhan to Diwali.
- Total Trips: 16 trips in each direction.
- Operational Period: August 14 to November 28, 2026.
- Key Stoppages: Shahdol, Anuppur, Pendra Road, Bilaspur, and Raigarh.
- Train Numbers: 04159 (Prayagraj to Visakhapatnam) and 04160 (Visakhapatnam to Prayagraj).
Schedule and Connectivity Details
According to Ambikesh Sahu, Public Relations Officer of the Bilaspur Division, the special train service is a strategic move to address the high demand for berths during the festive months. Train No. 04159 departs from Prayagraj and operates every Friday, with the service having commenced on August 14 and scheduled to run until November 27. The return service, Train No. 04160, departs from Visakhapatnam every Saturday, starting from August 15 and continuing operations until November 28.
The route has been carefully planned to benefit passengers across the region. By including key halts at Shahdol, Anuppur, Pendra Road, Bilaspur, and Raigarh, the railway aims to provide better connectivity for commuters traveling for family reunions, medical appointments, educational purposes, and business engagements.
Easing Festive Travel Woes
Festive seasons in India typically see a massive spike in railway bookings, often leading to long waiting lists. Railway officials have emphasized that this initiative is specifically intended to ensure more passengers secure confirmed berths during this high-demand period. By introducing these special services, the SECR hopes to alleviate the pressure on regular trains and provide a more comfortable and reliable journey for those heading home to celebrate with their loved ones. Passengers are advised to check the official IRCTC website or the NTES app for real-time updates and booking availability.
