The Indian Railways has given the green signal for the doubling of the Delhi-Saharanpur rail route to boost connectivity and speed. This major infrastructure project aims to end the long waits for train crossings, benefiting thousands of daily commuters from Western Uttar Pradesh. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the work from Delhi to Shamli will be prioritized with a target to finish within three years.
Key details of the Delhi-Saharanpur railway project
- The first phase covers 87 km from Delhi-Shahdara to Shamli
- Budget of 1000 crore rupees has been approved for the first phase
- Final Location Survey is currently being conducted at a fast pace
- The project will be completed in two distinct phases
- Future plans include starting Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services on this route
Improvements in passenger travel and train speed
The doubling of the track will significantly increase the speed of trains running between Delhi and Saharanpur. Passengers from cities such as Ghaziabad, Baghpat, and Muzaffarnagar will experience shorter travel times and smoother journeys. By converting smaller halts into crossing stations, the railway aims to manage traffic more efficiently and reduce overall delays.
